New Version of Internet Explorer 7 Coming Soon! Microsoft will be releasing Internet Explorer 7 on November 1st through Windows Update. This means that when you turn on your computer on or after Nov 1st you may be prompted about installing IE7.IE7 has a great deal of new security features built in which should help to ease the spyware/adware battle. You should almost definitely accept the update if for no other reason than that you will most likely be bugged incessantly by Windows to install it.
You should be aware though that some websites may give you problems in Internet Explorer. One that you may immediately notice is the Web Tools II (Cascade Server) content management system. If you have problems with any of the sites please use Firefox or Netscape to view the site instead of IE.
Passwords/Security: All Directory passwords created before August 16, 2006 will expire in early November. New passwords remain valid for up to 180 days. To get additional information on password issues or to select a new password, please visit the University Directory Password Web page at password.umd.edu.
New Employees: Read the New Employee Document (Word) to learn about setting up new employees with their Directory ID and Email.
